Melanie is a German-Hungarian director, producer, and award-winning cinematographer residing in LA. Before relocating to California, she studied directing for film and television at The Media Academy Berlin, graduating with a BFA. Alongside her studies, Melanie worked as a director and cinematographer—shooting commercials, image clips, and educational campaigns for Berlin’s Senate Department for Education. Her work centered on underrepresented youth, particularly refugees and children with disabilities.
In 2021, Melanie received her interdisciplinary MFA in Film Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and worked as a freelance cinematographer and producer before taking on her role as Director of Mariposa Camera at the Academy Award-winning Breakwater Studios.
At Breakwater, she has led the camera department for nearly three years, overseeing a team of three and orchestrating production needs across the studio’s slate. In addition to managing the department, she continues to shoot and direct select projects.
Melanie is also a frequent collaborator with her husband, Máté Boegi. Their short film The Swimmer, which she produced and shot in Denmark, was recognized with a Vimeo Staff Pick in 2024.
In 2021, she received the Haskell Wexler Student Documentary Award from the ASC for her work on Driven, which tells the story of quadriplegic race car driver Mario Bonfante Jr.
